You should be OK running a 5k in new shoes. It will help break them in for all of the running you will be doing in that marathon plan. :-)

I ran the celtic solstice last winter - it was a great race! So cold, but the race jacket was nice and they had a warm tent for all the runners (and cheering section). I wish I could run it again this year but I will be out of town. Good luck!

Ah, new shoes! Those are the best!<BR/><BR/>Be sure to recycle your old ones, though! Many running stores offer the recycling service - if not, find a Nike store or check out their site to see how you can turn your old shoes into playgroud mulch!

New shoes for a 5K shouldn't be an issue; I think it's only a problem breaking in new shoes for longer races.

new running shoes are great. Which marathon are you doing again? I'm doing Myrtle Beach on valentines day, and I found the plan from Hal Higdon's web site. I'm always curious where other people find marathon training plans, though.
