No running for me on NRD

Yesterday was National Running Day. And you know what I didn't do? That's right, I didn't run.

Why you might ask? Well because National Running Day fell on one of my cross-training days and I wasn't about to get my training schedule all messed up just for some faux-holiday running celebration.

Seriously, I run most days of the week. In my mind every day should be National Running Day and people shouldn't need a special day to go out and do it. But yea, America is fat so I guess the country as a whole needs days like this. Props to all who participated.

I however knocked out a solid day of cross training. I did Level 3 of the 30 Day Shred for the first time and holy moly I was in some serious pain. I had to do the modified version of a lot of stuff because I thought I might die. What an awesome workout.

Then I taught my yoga class where I for the first time had two participants who I don't think smiled once. They were all super intense yoga people and the whole time I was just thinking, "Oh man my class is so not for you." My class is so mellow and chill and for people who just do yoga for a good time and for the health benefits. I don't like making people bend into unnatural shapes. So I feel like those two ladies probably didn't get a ton out of my class. But my normal Wed. lady was there too and she looked pretty happy with the class, so it's all good.

It's raining like crazy here today so we'll see how I'm feeling about tonight's run. If the weather clears I'll get it in, if not I might just swap in another day of the Shred.

Happy Thursday!

  1. I figured that it needed support because there's a lot of people who wouldn't be running otherwise. I get your position though and agree with it!

  3. I think next year the running community should support the day by not just running, but also with firecrackers. That might liven up the event!

  4. I think runner's ignore NRD just as much as smokers ignore Smoke Out days. It's really for all the traditional non-participants.

  5. I was going to go for a run. But then I fell asleep. And I figured a nap was much more beneficial to get me through a long night at the office.

  6. I agree with you but NRD fell on a day I needed to run. It appears most people around my parts opted to bike instead of run yesterday so you weren't the only one to cross-train!

  7. So ... National Running Day ... thumbs up or thumbs down? I couldn't tell from this post.

    Pick a side!

    We're at WAR, sister!

yeah - SERIOUS yoga foax, I mean, wazzup there? Because isn't part of it to kinda LET GO of stress while getiing your body in some kinda shape?

    Lighten up, YOGA NAZIS!

But, in the spirit of your post's wishy-washiness re: NRD ... I also simultaneously support you whole-heartedly, Humorless Yoga Nazis!

See? I can tergiversate with the best of 'em.

  8. Sorry for the wishy-washyness on NRD G...I'm not a fan of it for regular runners. We run when we want and don't need to be told to. We don't need a special day. But hey if it helps get someone else off the couch who normally wouldn't then I understand the point.

  9. I didn't run yesterday either as it was one of my crosstraining days and I spent the day in the airport! Ha!

Level 3 ALWAYS makes me sore. Always, always. The other two levels are still hard, but I'm usually not sore the next day, I am with level 3 though!

  12. I'm sure the only people who "celebrated" NRD were...runners. I bet no one else even had a clue!
