Dropping to the half

Well it's official. I dropped down to the half marathon from the full this morning. I can barely walk this morning my knee hurts so much. I tried to go out for a run Sunday while the weather was gorgeous. I got maybe a quarter of a mile before I had to stop and walk back home. It was disheartening to the say the least.

I guess it's back to rest and ice and stretching out my freakin' IT Band.

I'm trying to keep my chin up. I love half marathons. They are such a fun distance and it will be my first race ever in D.C. and my friends can still come watch. I'm just nervous my knee won't heal up in time for me to get some quality runs in before race day. I don't want to DNS or DNF this race.

I'm bummed but OK with dropping from the full to the half, but I would be heart broken if I couldn't run at all.

Aw, I'm sorry you're still having so many problems. At least you're able to even run the half, but I'm sure you're bummed. *hugs*

I recall hobbling around the office for a week after my first 5k. Tried ice for months after running and found the best exercise to help my knees was sitting on the floor in a "Y" position and turning my feet inward to touch the floor and outward as far as I could. Can't find the link that illustrated that technique.... Good Luck!

I'm really sorry that you are still having problems with your knee. Maybe you should take a few days off from running and try some Yoga or something with less impact.

Keep rsting up and taking care of your body. Better to switch to the half than suffer through 26.2

Believe me when I say I know how you feel. When I read the title of your post I got a knot in my stomach....all I can say is probably all the the stuff you already know and that everyone on here will say...Take your time, don't run injured, stretch, ice, blah, blah, blah, don't be surprised if you see someone running tomorrow when it's 58 degrees and you want to knock them off the sidewalk...(did I just type that???LOL, Just kidding, sort of)! Bottom line is that it blows, big time, and I'm sorry if I sound bitter, but YOU already did your time on the "Injured List" last year, it's my time to shine on the injured list, so get better fast!!!!

I am sorry to hear about your setback. Is it going around? I don't know. Frustrating as it may be, it's times like these that remind me how thankful I should be for being able to run at all, let alone 13.1 miles.

yea sometimes you have to do what you half to do. i hate it for you, i was really looking forward to seeing you go through the same process i have gone through. not that the half doesn't have it's own set of challenges, but i'm fighting my knees right now too, and we just have a lot in common right now. **hugs & love**

cutting back was definitely very wise. you will run a marathon another day! it is important to get your rest and heal up so that when you do get to marathon day you are 100%. the half will still be fun and at least you aren't sidelined for good!
