Another six in the books

by - Tuesday, October 07, 2008

Last night I was supposed to go spinning with a girl from work, but her back has been bothering her so she needed last night off.

I wasn't too upset because it gave me the perfect opportunity to get my first fall weather run in. I couldn't have asked for more perfect weather. It was brisk with a slight breeze and still a little bit of sunlight.

I decided it was the perfect night to get in a nice six miler.

I started out telling myself that the goal was to just get the six done, take it easy, see how things feel and not worry about time.

That's pretty much exactly what I did. I just ran, zoned out to my music and enjoyed the weather.

Everything felt good, except for a slight twinge in my knee around mile five that faded pretty quickly. I may re-start taping my knee on longer runs just for the extra support. My legs started to feel a little sluggish toward the end of the run, but I was still able to finish strong.

I stretched out really well afterward and I have no pain, tightness or soreness today.

I was also pleased to find out that even though I wasn't paying attention to the time, I didn't go that much slower than normal. I finished in 1:04:54ish.

I'm taking a rest day today and have soccer tomorrow.

ORN:

  4. I get twinges every now and then, but focus on my form and try not to aggravate it. If it isn't sharp, it usually goes away.

Excellent run! Losing yourself in the music the moment is often the key to success :-)

  5. Good for you! A run where you just let yourself go and enjoy it and kind of got lost in the scenery... the absolute best. The pace is certainly not the important thing as you weren't trying to go fast or racing for that matter.

Running can be a lot of fun and you just proved it.
